The Best of Times; the Worst of Times

The Padres Low-A affiliate, Fort Wayne TinCaps finished the minor league regular season with the best winning percentage (.671) of any minor league team.

Unfortunately, the Padres AAA affiliate, Portland Beavers, finished the minor league regular season tied for the worst the ninth worst winning percentage (.417) of any team in the minors…

Baseball America has the top and bottom 10’s.

wow, mets AA and AAA both finished in the top 5 worst records in the minors. That is really sad. Portland at least made it tied for 9th worst.

    Still pretty darn bad.

Padres aren’t a whole lot better. Guess that is because most of the AAA team has been in the ML most of this season.

Just looking at the full-season clubs (Portland, San Antonio, Lake Elsinore, and Fort Wayne), Padres affiliates finished the season 297-267 (a .526 winning rate).

I wonder if Portland’s record is due to the majority of their players at San Diego.

Yeah, if they had full seasons from Banks and Venable they’d have a better record, but not a ton better. It never was a great team.

You think with the strong pitching that helped Fort Wayne dominate the Midwest League this year will continue as they get promoted? Or will this be an aberration?

I know you want a strong minor league system from Rookie to AAA ball, but if I could pick one level to be bad in my system, I’d probably pick AAA, using this year’s Beavers as a great example of why.

Well remember Latos started there so that part of it isn’t a future tense question but a past tense answer… Seriously though, Bass is doing fine in High-A, Castro could be a borderline top 100 guy; I expect a lot from those guys – and don’t forget guys like Erik Davis and Chris Fetter…
